First day in Taitung

We arrived in Taitung a little weary but the enthusiastic Rotarians lifted our spirits. After pictures at the train station, we went for Lunch at a local restaurant. The food was great as usual.

Next we visited The National Museum of Prehistory. The story of this museum is interesting. In 1990 when they were building a new train station, an old village was uncovered. Many ancient homes and grave sites were found. The train station was relocated and the site was preserved. The museum contains many of the artifacts from that site. It is a wonderful museum with terrific sculpture and interactive exhibits. The photo of the pillar includes a mountain in the background that is still considered a holy site today.

Next was another terrific dinner of local aboriginal cuisine. The restaurant owner has three wives (one legal) and I included a photo of his youngest wife and him in silhouette.

The night was capped off by a trip to an aboriginal street market where there was a live band and then a stop for some traditional shaved ice thanks to Rotarian Dr. Jim Lee.
